THE SHORT VERSION
A bridge over a gorge, and the gorge underneath it
The Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge crosses the Grand Canyon near Cili County, east of the city. It is a suspension span with a glass deck, and the reason it stands out is the drop: the canyon floor sits roughly 300 m below your feet.
The bridge is the headline, but it is only part of the site. Below the deck runs a narrow limestone gorge with waterfalls, pools and boardwalks, and the usual full route crosses the bridge and then walks down through that gorge before a short boat ride carries you out.If you are planning the rest of your trip, explore our full Zhangjiajie Travel Guide → for transport, tickets, and itinerary ideas.“

THE SHAPE OF THE VISIT
How the route actually runs
The site is laid out as a one-way route rather than a place you wander around, so the order of the day is fixed by the layout.
Schematic route, not to scale. The site runs one way, so the crossing comes either before or after the gorge walk depending on the ticket route.

MIXED AGES
Low-impact version
A version that leans on the shuttle, the lift and the downhill slide to cut out much of the canyon walking.

- Downhill slide as an option on the steeper section
- Suits families, mixed ages and travelers who prefer not to walk the full route

WHAT THE DAY LOOKS LIKE
A sample Glass Bridge day
The canyon sits east of the city, so the drive is part of the day rather than something that slots in at the last minute.
Shoe covers are handed out at the entrance and are required on the glass. Crossing with photo stops usually takes around half an hour.
Below the deck the route becomes a boardwalk through a green limestone ravine, past waterfalls and pools.
The walking ends at a lake at the mouth of the canyon, where a short boat ride carries you the rest of the way to the exit.
